KWA opens 24 hr control room to tackle drinking water issues during summer

Thiruvananthapuram: A grievance redressal and monitoring cell has been set up at the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) headquarters to address the drinking water problems caused by the onset of summer. The control room aims to resolve complaints in a timely manner and streamline the supply of drinking water during the summer.

Complaints can be made 24 hours a day on the toll-free number 1916 through a centralized system at the head office. In addition, complaints will be received through WhatsApp number 9495998258.

A district-level control room has been set up in the office of the Superintendent Engineer to receive complaints at the district level. It operates from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 24 hours during emergencies. Nodal officers have also been assigned to coordinate district-level activities.

According to a press release from KWA, it was also decided to make the Blue Brigade system more efficient for emergency repairs. A special squad will be formed to monitor the functioning of the water supply system. It was also decided to collect information on the places where leaks occur frequently and to ensure that the leaks are rectified immediately. In addition to the existing water reservoirs in the areas where water scarcity is acute, temporary reservoirs will be set up with the financial assistance of the Local Self Government Department. An Anti-Theft Squad will be formed to detect water misuse and theft.
