Thiruvananthapuram: 6,268 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in Kerala today along with 5,707 patient recoveries. 5,652 were locally transmitted cases and the source of infection for 460 was unknown. There are 54 healthcare workers among those infected. In the meantime, 28 deaths in the last few days were confirmed today as caused by Covid taking the death toll in the state to 3,042.
63,887 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.81%. A total of 78,53,651 samples have been sent for testing till now.
The district-wise numbers of those who tested positive for Coronavirus infection are Ernakulam 1006, Pathanamthitta 714, Kozhikode 638, Kollam 602, Kottayam 542, Alappuzha 463, Thrissur 450, Malappuram 407, Palakkad 338, Thiruvananthapuram 320, Wayanad 267, Kannur 242, Idukki 204 and Kasaragod 75. Of those diagnosed with the disease today, 102 have arrived in the state from outside.
Meanwhile, 29 persons who recently came to Kerala from the UK have so far been confirmed with Covid and their samples have been sent to NIV, Pune for further testing.
The count of those infected through contact in the districts are Ernakulam 919, Pathanamthitta 612, Kozhikode 611, Kollam 593, Kottayam 502, Alappuzha 454, Thrissur 433, Malappuram 394, Palakkad 222, Thiruvananthapuram 207, Wayanad 253, Kannur 195, Idukki 190 and Kasargod 67.
The numbers of infected healthcare personnel from the districts are Ernakulam 12, Kannur 10, Pathanamthitta 8, Thiruvananthapuram 7, Kozhikode 5, Kasaragod 4, Palakkad 3, Thrissur & Wayanad 2 each and Idukki 1.
The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 392, Kollam 389, Pathanamthitta 243, Alappuzha 479, Kottayam 517, Idukki 222, Ernakulam 780, Thrissur 451, Palakkad 333, Malappuram 609, Kozhikode 718, Wayanad 217, Kannur 201 and Kasargod 156.
At present, there are 65,394 patients still undergoing treatment while a total of 6,87,104 people have recovered from Covid in the State.
There are currently 2,47,725 people under isolation across the state – 2,35,609 under home or institutional quarantine and 12,116 in hospitals. 1,426 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
Four places were declared as hotspots today even as seven areas were exempted. There are 460 hotspots in Kerala now.
