Thiruvananthapuram: 2,333 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today. As per the Minister of Health, Smt K K Shailaja, 2,151 people were infected through contact and source of infection in 53 cases is unknown. 60 of those diagnosed with the disease have come back from foreign countries and 98 from other states. 17 healthcare workers were also infected. At the same time, 1,217 patients under treatment have recovered and were discharged today.
Seven deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid. Bhargavi (90) & Meenakshi (86) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Shamsudeen (65) from Pathanamthitta district, Rajan (56) from Kollam district and Jameela (53), T V Mathai (67) & Thankappan (64) from Ernakulam district are the deceased. This takes the Covid related death toll in the State to 182. Further deaths will be confirmed after successive tests at NIV, Alappuzha.
540 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 322 in Malappuram district, 253 from Alappuzha district, 230 in Ernakulam district, 203 from Kottayam district, 174 in Kasaragod district, 126 from Kannur district, 97 in Thrissur district, 87 from Pathanamthitta district, 78 in Kozhikode district, 77 from Kollam district, 65 in Palakkad district, 64 from Idukki district and 17 in Wayanad district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus today.
The district-wise numbers of contact cases are 519 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 297 in Malappuram district, 240 in Alappuzha district, 214 in Ernakulam district, 198 in Kottayam district, 154 in Kasaragod district, 122 in Kannur district, 89 in Thrissur district, 78 in Pathanamthitta district, 74 in Kollam district, 60 in Kozhikode district, 55 in Palakkad district, 38 in Idukki district and 13 in Wayanad district.
The infected healthcare workers are seven in Thiruvananthapuram district, five in Malappuram district, three in Ernakulam district, and one each in Kozhikode and Kannur districts. Seven INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were among those infected.
The number of patients who tested negative today are 224 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 41 from Kollam district, 18 in Pathanamthitta district, 65 from Alappuzha district, 54 in Kottayam district, five from Idukki district, 101 in Ernakulam district, 28 from Thrissur district, 103 in Palakkad district, 263 from Malappuram district, 174 in Kozhikode district, 12 from Wayanad district, 48 in Kannur district and 81 from Kasargod district.
Till now, 32,611 people have been cured of Covid and at present, 17,382 patients are undergoing treatment in the State.
1,69,687 persons are presently under observation across the state, 1,55,928 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 13,759 in hospitals. 1,730 people were admitted to the hospital today.
At the same time, the numbers of tests have been increased and 36,291 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. A total of 12,76,358 samples have so far been sent for testing, including 1,53,433 samples from high public exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
There are 19 new hotspots today while 12 places were excluded from the list. There are 572 hotspots in Kerala now.
