Motor Vehicles Department launches SMS & Email alert system

Trivandrum: The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has launched an SMS and e-mail alert facility for those who avail various services from the Department. The system was inaugurated by the Minister for Power & Transport, Shri Aryadan Mohammed at Thiruvananthapuram.

Launched with a view to ensure more transparency and better service from the different Regional and Sub-Regional Transport Offices (RTO & S-RTO) spread across the State, initially the SMS and e-mail alert facility is available for five services. This includes information about the registration number for newly registered vehicles, status of e-application, e-payment, inward number, and document despatch details.

With the introduction of SMS and e-mail alert system, information regarding the live status of these services from the department or transactions made at any of these offices would be sent as SMS or email. The system has been designed and developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Kerala.

In his address, the Minister said that the department would bring out more such services to ensure transparency. Recently, the Motor Vehicles Department had launched 19 services for which e-payment facilities could be used online. Gradually, the new SMS and e-mail alert facility would cover all these services.

In May 2010, the Motor Vehicles Department had launched its m-Governance programme by which citizens could get information from the Department through SMS. Vehicle Details, Application Status, State Transport Authority (STA) Permit Application Status, Allotted Registration Number enquiry, Vehicle Tax, Vehicle Number Booking Range and Status enquiry are the services available through SMS from the Regional Transport Offices across Kerala.

Rishi Raj Singh IPS, Transport Commissioner and other officials from the MVD were present on the occasion.
