Trivandrum: Oman Air, the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman, and NORKA Roots, a public sector undertaking under the Department of Non Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA), Government of Kerala, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding by which Oman Air will offer a discount on airfare to NORKA Roots Identity Card holders. The MoU was handed over to Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan.
Briefing the media, Sunil V A, Regional Vice-President, Oman Air said, “This is a unique initiative from Oman Air and this is our first tie-up with any Government body in India. Oman Air will offer 7% discount for NORKA Roots Identity Card holders flying to and from India on our network for all classes. This is the 25th year of our International operations and we have been servicing Trivandrum from 1993. We have six flights daily from Kerala to destinations spread over GCC. This offer should help the NORKA Roots ID Card holders to plan their journey and book tickets well in advance.”
K Varadarajan, Vice Chairman, Norka-Roots said, “We issue photo identity cards for the non-resident Keralites working for a minimum of six months in a foreign country. There are about 4 lakhs NORKA Roots ID card holders and this MoU with Oman Air will benefit all of them, especially those who travel very frequently to Kerala. Oman Air is our first partner in this initiative and we will be looking for tie-ups with more airlines in the future.”
The discount will be available on bookings done on Oman Air website and also through their offices on submission of NORKA Roots ID Card number. The discount will be available to the member and their family, for children up to the age of 18.
