Trivandrum: To commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the iconic Malayalam film, Chemmeen; Uday Suites, an upmarket hotel part of the Uday Samudra group, is hosting a week long Chemmeen food fest from today. The hotel is located just a few minutes walking distance from the Shangumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram.
A function to felicitate the veteran actor, Padma Shri Madhu who donned the role of Pareekutty in the film was held on August 19th, the date on which the film was released in 1965. In his comments, Raja Gopaal Iyer, CEO of UDS Group said that the Chemmeen food fest was a way for the hotel to offer a befitting tribute to the classic film.
Explaining the menu, Faisal Basheer, Executive Chef at Uday Suites said, “The highlight of this seafood festival is the traditional sea food delicacies prepared by selected housewives from the coastal area in Thiruvananthapuram. We wanted our customers to relish the authentic taste of the coastal belt. These women have a very special way of cooking and at times, special ingredients too. So this Chemmeen food festival menu based on seafood is a combined effort of our in-house team and these ladies. There will be a different menu every day which features about 125 items in total.”
For the inaugural event, the soup section had Chemmeen Cheera soup. Mathi Pollicha salad and Unakka konchu vendakkai thalichathu made up the salad section. Starters from the live counter included Meen Kothu Parotta and coastal fish grills. Meen unda puliyil vattichathu, Koonthal Manga Ularthu, Kanthari Njandu Curry, Ayila pachavechathu and Kakkayirachi Idiyappam biryani were the main dishes in the main course. Natholi sambar and Chemmeen idi chammanthi are some add-ons. There were three varieties of sea food pickles also.
Vegetarians need not be disappointed as there is an equally delicious spread of traditional Kerala vegetarian dishes.
The film would also be screened every evening during the dinner only buffet food fest which concludes on August 27th.
