Trivandrum: In the golden jubilee year since its inception, the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) will spearhead this year’s Onam celebrations in Kerala. Elaborate plans have been drawn up to celebrate Onam in its traditional fervour and gaiety across all the properties in the State. This was announced by Shri M Vijayakumar, Chairman of KTDC while addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram today.
“We have properties in the budget to the premium range – 29 hotels, 10 wayside motels and 60 other units, with a presence from Bekal in the north to Kovalam in the south. This year’s Onam will be celebrated across all these properties in a grand way and our motto will be ‘Celebrate this Onam with KTDC’. The Onam Sadya and Payasam Mela will be the key attractions during the ten-day festivities which will start on August 29th”, said Vijayakumar.
“This is the 50th year since KTDC was started and we are modernising and renovating our properties across the State in a big way. KTDC was the first to bring in tour packages in Kerala. All the packages are being reworked to attract the new generation of tourists. The green protocol is being rolled out gradually across all properties. It’s a matter of pride that KTDC has not increased its tariff even after the introduction of GST. Our focus is to keep the tariff affordable”, he added.
R Rahul IRS, MD of KTDC said, “We will be marketing the tour packages of District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPC) and Forest Department. We have also introduced new training modules for our staff in an effort to improve customer service. The occupancy rates are in the range of 40-50% with the majority being domestic tourists.”
