North Kerala invites non-resident Keralites to invest in tourism ventures


Kannur: In an effort to boost tourism development in north Malabar, Bekal Resorts Development Corporation Limited (BRDC) under the State Tourism Department is organising a two-day workshop for budding and aspiring tourism entrepreneurs and investors at Nileshwaram on December 11-12, 2016.

According to T K Manzoor, Managing Director of BRDC, “There will be a burst of tourism opportunities against the backdrop of the upcoming Kannur International Airport and the National Waterway, which extends up to Bekal. They will surely give a fillip to tourism in the region and entrepreneurs and investors should be in a position to tap the opportunities.”

The preliminary workshop is a part of the government’s several initiatives giving priority to small and medium entrepreneurs to boost tourism in north Malabar region. The programmes will focus on finding new opportunities for the entrepreneurs, coordinating them and providing guidelines for best practice.

The two-day workshop will focus businesses such as budget resorts, home stays, farm tourism, ayurveda centres, houseboats, tour operations, responsible tourism, indigenous art, kalaripayattu, yoga centres, handicraft and souvenir making. Successful entrepreneurs and subject experts will share their experience with the participants of the workshop.

The workshop is open to all – resident of any District- and is targeted at aspiring entrepreneurs who plan to start any tourism-related businesses in the region from Vadakara Taluk in Kozhikode to Kannur and Kasargod districts. Check out for registration.
