Kochi to host Women Entrepreneurship Summit in Nov


Trivandrum: To showcase the remarkable achievement of the State in promoting women entrepreneurship, the Kerala Government through the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is holding Women Entrepreneurs Summit (WE Summit 2015) on November 19, the United Nations’ Women’s Entrepreneurship Day’ at Kochi.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Industries & IT, Shri P K Kunhalikutty at the Interface Programme of KSIDC organised today in Thiruvananthapuram where over 600 women entrepreneurs from the district participated.

In his address, the Minister said, “The WE Summit will showcase Kerala’s progress in women entrepreneurship to the global community, besides further strengthening the cause of women entrepreneurs by offering a platform for future collaborations and networking. The event is held as part of KSIDC’s ‘WE Mission – Kerala’ initiative.” He also added that over the next five years, women in the State should turn from job seekers to job providers.

WE Mission – Kerala is the latest in a series of initiatives launched by KSIDC to promote entrepreneurship in recent times after its much-lauded Young Entrepreneurship Summit, Business Incubation Centres, Startup – Bootcamp and Angel Funding support.

The event will see the participation of over 2,000 women entrepreneurs from the State, over 200 exhibitors and several national and international agencies. The Summit would see sector specific discussions, one to one interactive meetings, and exhibition of products to boost women’s entrepreneurship in the state. The Summit is being held with close coordination with Kudumbashree and Micro Small & Medium Enterprises, Department of Industries & Commerce (MSME-DIC).

The event will also honour best women-led entrepreneurs in Kerala, declaring the State women ambassadors, award for best exhibitors, among other things. The sectors in focus at the event will be garments, education, agriculture, food processing, light engineering, retail and hospitality.

The government is also organising Interface programme in various districts to attract women into entrepreneurship.

The website of the WE Mission initiative (wemissionkerala.org) was launched by P H Kurian, Principal Secretary (Industries & IT) during the function in the presence of Dr M Beena, MD, KSIDC; K B Valsalakumari, ED, Kudumbashree; and B Jyothi Kumar, ED, KSIDC.
