Kozhikode: Spider, a new mobile application, developed by the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) students to act as a communication bridge between the Ernakulam Rural Police and the Public, will be launched by the Minister for Home & Vigilance, Shri Ramesh Chennithala on June 13, 2015 at Aluva.
The mobile application would be available on Android platform. One of the key features of this application is that the users can report the incidence of crime or violations of law by a single touch of a smart phone. The report would automatically contain the information of the location of the user. The application also has provisions to add photographs, as evidence, if the users wish to do so.
Another key feature of the application is that there is an option for checking the status of the petitions online by entering the appropriate petition number. Users are also aided with emergency contact information of the Ernakulam Rural Police, which they can dial on a single touch. They can see important rules regarding traffic fines, regulations etc. in the application. Ernakulam Rural Police can reach the public with notifications and news items through this application, as well.
The application was developed as a part of a Social Development Project (SDP) under the Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) of IIM-K. The project team was led by the Ernakulam Rural SP, Yathish Chandra G H, IPS. It was mentored by Prof. Satish Krishnan of IIM-K. Prof. Anubha Shekhar Sinha and Prof. Priya Nair Rajeev are the coordinators of the SDP programme. The team consisted of students of EPGP 2013-2015 batch of IIM-K Kochi Campus – Antony T M, Banarji B, Geo Joe Mathew, Nirmal Sajo Thomas and Renjith Viswanath.
