Kerala Tourism makes inroads into Nordic region markets


Trivandrum: In its sustained efforts to attract visitors from emerging tourism markets, Kerala Tourism has held three roadshows in the Nordic region, drawing a huge response from the local travel trade. More than 80 representatives from 55 companies of these countries participated in the road shows.

The roadshows were organised in Norway, Finland and Denmark last week. The State tourism delegation comprising tour operators, hotels and Ayurveda resorts was led by Kerala Tourism Director, P I Sheikh Pareeth. All the three countries are part of the five-member Nordic nations group in Europe.

“All the three roadshows received a warm response from the local tourism industry representatives. The road shows will help attract more visitors from the Nordic region to Kerala in the future,” said Pareeth.

The Scandinavian roadshow kicked off on November 11 in Norway’s capital Oslo, the most populous city in the northern European country. India’s Ambassador to Norway, Air Chief Marshal (Retired) N A K Browne, was the Chief Guest at the roadshow, which was attended by a large number of local travel and tourism industry representatives.

The roadshow in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, was held on November 12 at the Hilton Helsinki Stand, where Ashok Kumar Sharma, the Ambassador of India to Finland and Estonia, was the Chief Guest.

The roadshow in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, was held on November 13. The Ambassador of India to Denmark, Niraj Srivastava, was the Chief Guest.

Hotels and Resorts representatives from Kerala included Anantara Hotels and Resorts, CGH Earth, Eastend Hotels and Resorts, Joy’s Resorts and Hotels, Lake Palace Resort, Poovar Island Resort, Ramada Resort – Kochi, Thomas Hotels and Resorts, Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel and Spa, Vasundhara Sarovar Premiere; and Vythiri Resort.

The tour operators included The Blue Yonder, Dakshin Routes, Intersight Tours and Travels, Kerala Voyages and Pioneer Personalized Holidays. The Ayurveda resorts representations were from Ayurvedamana Properties and Somatheeram Ayurveda Group.

Kerala Tourism had conducted roadshows in Australia and New Zealand last month to attract travellers from the two countries.
