Sixth Season of Grand Kerala Shopping Festival begins

Kannur: The Grand Kerala Shopping Festival opened here with a spectacular ceremony that gave a foretaste of the number of exciting, entertaining and fun-filled events that have been lined-up over the next 48 days of the festival’s sixth season. Six lamps signifying six years of GKSF were collectively lit by the dignitaries on stage to inaugurate the festival.

Union Minister of State of Civil Aviation, Shri K C Venugopal said in his inaugural address that GKSF is an opportunity to showcase our prized products to the world. “We must create a priority list of our indigenous products and promote them. GKSF is one of the best initiatives in the state; and a great tool to promote tourism which is a huge employment and revenue generator for this state. It is also wonderful to see a festival of this scale encourage responsible shopping.”

In his address,  Shri A P Anil Kumar, Minister for Tourism, said that the biggest plus point of GKSF is that it is not confined to cities but reaches out to even to the interiors of the state. “Our efforts have been to make this festival more participatory and I am sure that with people taking ownership, it will emerge as the biggest event of its kind anywhere. As a step in this direction we are introducing an international trade fair in Kochi this year. The Global Village will be a new experience for Kerala,” he said.
