GKSF season 6 starts off with new logo launch


Trivandrum: The sixth edition of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF), a Government of Kerala initiative, has rolled off to a start with the launch of a new logo for the festival, at Thiruvananthapuram. GKSF Season 6 starts on December 15, 2012 and will conclude on January 31, 2013. Free registration for merchant establishments in the general category and a Global Village mega trade show in Kochi will be the highlights of this season.

Started in 2007 with the objective of making Kerala a prominent trade centre while encouraging maximum tourists to visit the State during this season, GKSF has seen good growth. During the last season, 50 lakh coupons were distributed. A target of 10,000 registrations is set for this season and gifts worth Rs.25-30 crore will be offered. The opening ceremony will be held in Kozhikode and the closing at Kollam.

GKSF has also has signed up with Akshaya to enable online registration of Merchant Establishments at Akshaya e-Centres. The MoU was signed between U V Jose, Director of GKSF and P Bala Kiran IAS, Director of Akshaya.

As per the MoU signed with Akshaya, GKSF will use the services of over 2,000 Akshaya centres spread across the State to facilitate online registration. The registration will be done under the supervision of the Logistic agency handling the event. To encourage online registration, a discount of 5% is being offered by GKSF to Merchant Establishment who does their registration online. Over 100 Akshaya Centres will also be customised as ‘Logistics Hubs’ to ensure effective distribution of GKSF merchandise and gift / discount coupons.

Minister for Tourism, Shri A P Anil Kumar said, “GKSF targets to create a second shopping season in Kerala after the Onam festival. The online registration facility for Merchant Establishments will help more and more establishments from rural areas to join and participate in the festival. This year, the small shop owners under the General Category would be offered free registration to ensure better and bigger participation.”

Suman Billa IAS, Secretary, Tourism and Rani George IAS, Director, Kerala Tourism, were among those present on the occasion.
