Bangalore: The combined desk-based and mobile PC market in India totalled nearly 1.96 million units in the fourth quarter of 2013, a 19.9 per cent decrease over the fourth quarter of 2012, according to Gartner, Inc. PC shipments in Asia / Pacific region also fell by 10.8% in 4Q13, compared with 4Q12. This was the seventh consecutive quarter of year-over-year decline.
“Consumers accounted for 49 percent of total PC sales in the fourth quarter of 2013,” said Vishal Tripathi, Principal Research Analyst at Gartner.” In the absence of any government orders this quarter, the Indian PC market performed dismally, re-emphasizing the fact that with current economic sentiments and the current political scenario, enterprises are deferring their purchases.”
White boxes (including parallel imports), which accounted for 44 percent of the overall desktop market, declined 10 percent in the fourth quarter of 2013 compared to the same period last year. In the fourth quarter, mobile PCs registered a 27 percent year on year increase.
According to the Indian PC market share estimates for fourth quarter of 2013 (Percentage of Shipments), HP was the leader with 21.3%, followed by Dell (18.6%), Lenovo (15.9%), Acer (9.2%) and HCL (2.5%) with other brands accounting for 32.5%.
Worldwide PC shipments totalled 82.6 million units in the fourth quarter of 2013, a 6.9 percent decline from the fourth quarter of 2012.
