Milma hikes procurement price by Rs 9 per litre during Onam

Trivandrum: The Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (TRCMPU) has increased the procurement price of a litre of milk by Rs 9 during Onam. TRCMPU Chairman, Mani Vishwanath said Rs 7 of this will be paid to the dairy societies, while Rs 2 will be converted into additional share capital of the regional unions.

Of the Rs 7 received by the dairy societies, Rs 5 will go to the dairy farmers, and Rs 2 may be used as their handling expenses. This incentive would be provided proportionate to the milk the societies supplied in July 2024 with the payment for August.

This will increase the average price of a litre of milk that the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Union procures to Rs 53.76 per litre. Smt Vishwanath said the union would incur an additional expenditure of around Rs 6.40 crore for this Onam season incentive.

The Thiruvananthapuram Union disbursed Rs 11.78 crore for the 2023-24 financial year and Rs 1.37 crore to date for 2024-25 from its profit towards additional milk price.
