42,464 cases today, full lockdown in Kerala from May 8-16

Trivandrum: 42,464 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in Kerala today from 1,55,632 samples that were tested during the last 24 hours (Test positivity rate 27.28%). This is the highest spike in new cases to be reported in the State so far on any single day. 63 recent deaths were confirmed to have been caused by Covid and the related death toll in the State is now 5,628. There are 3,90,906 people undergoing treatment even as 27,152 patients recovered from the disease today.

Meanwhile, in view of the serious situation, the state government has declared a full lockdown from May 08 to 16. All government offices, both State and Central, will be closed except for emergency essential services.

Up to 20 people can attend weddings that were fixed earlier and funerals. Shops selling essential items will be open till 7.30 pm. Banks, insurance and financial institutions will be open for the public from 10 am to 1 pm, and till 2 pm for staff.

There will be no public transport (road, water and metro). All religious, educational, coaching, training and research institutions must be closed.
