Thiruvananthapuram: Covid-19 was detected in 5,215 persons in Kerala today. 4,621 people including 67 healthcare workers were among those infected through contact and the source of infection was unknown for 405. At the same time, 5,376 patients under treatment have recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, 30 recent deaths were confirmed today as caused by Covid taking the death toll in the state to 3,072.
58,283 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 8.95%. So far, a total of 79,11,934 samples have been sent for testing.
The district-wise figures for the new positive cases are Ernakulam 574, Kozhikode 520, Thrissur 515, Pathanamthitta 512, Kottayam 481, Alappuzha 425, Thiruvananthapuram 420, Kollam 402, Malappuram 388, Kannur 302, Palakkad 225, Idukki 190, Wayanad 165 and Kasaragod 96. Of those diagnosed today, 122 have travelled to the state from outside.
In the meantime, Covid was confirmed in 32 persons who recently came from the UK and their samples have been sent to NIV, Pune for further testing.
The count for the locally transmitted cases in the districts are Ernakulam 528, Kozhikode 474, Thrissur 501, Pathanamthitta 423, Kottayam 459, Alappuzha 412, Thiruvananthapuram 296, Kollam 398, Malappuram 359, Kannur 245, Palakkad 111, Idukki 177, Wayanad 154 and Kasargod 84.
The tally of the infected medical and para-medical staff from the districts are Pathanamthitta 18, Kannur 12, Thrissur 8, Thiruvananthapuram 7, Ernakulam 6, Malappuram 4, Kozhikode 3; Kollam, Palakkad, Wayanad & Kasaragod 2 each, and Idukki 1.
The district-wise numbers of the patients whose test results were negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 333, Kollam 342, Pathanamthitta 421, Alappuzha 516, Kottayam 384, Idukki 205, Ernakulam 513, Thrissur 590, Palakkad 229, Malappuram 547, Kozhikode 714, Wayanad 298, Kannur 222 and Kasaragod 62.
There are 65,202 patients currently undergoing treatment for Coronavirus infection while a total of 6,92,480 people have so far been cured of the disease in the State.
There are 2,46,285 people under isolation in various districts of the state – 2,34,053 under home or institutional quarantine and 12,232 in hospitals. 1,375 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
Only one place was declared as a new hotspot today even as four areas were excluded. There are 458 hotspots in Kerala now.
