Thiruvananthapuram: 5,949 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Kerala today along with 5,268 patient recoveries. 5,173were cases of local transmission and the source of infection was not traceable for 646 cases. There were 47 medical or para-medical personnel among those infected today. In the meantime, 32 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid taking the death toll in the state to 2,594.
59,690 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.97%. A total of 69,21,597 samples have so far been sent for testing.
The district-wise figures for the new positive cases are Malappuram 765, Kozhikode 763, Ernakulam 732, Kottayam 593, Thrissur 528, Alappuzha 437, Palakkad 436, Thiruvananthapuram 373, Kollam 354, Pathanamthitta 333, Wayanad 283, Kannur 169, Idukki 123 and Kasaragod 60. Today, 83 of those diagnosed have travelled to the state from outside.
The count of those infected through contact in the districts are Malappuram 737, Kozhikode 731, Ernakulam 576, Kottayam 563, Thrissur 520, Alappuzha 416, Palakkad 208, Thiruvananthapuram 269, Kollam 347, Pathanamthitta 235, Wayanad 277, Kannur 123, Idukki 114 and Kasaragod 57.
The tally of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Ernakulam 12, Kozhikode 7, Kannur 6; Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur & Palakkad 4 each, Wayanad 3, Idukki 2, and Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Malappuram & Kasaragod 1 each.
The district-wise numbers of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 529, Kollam 447, Pathanamthitta 204, Alappuzha 425, Kottayam 387, Idukki 160, Ernakulam 510, Thrissur 570, Palakkad 285, Malappuram 611, Kozhikode 619, Wayanad 320, Kannur 110 and Kasaragod 91.
The total number of patient recoveries in the state has crossed six lakhs. 6,01,861 people have so far been cured of Covid while at present, there are 60,029 patients still undergoing treatment.
There are currently 3,15,167 people under isolation across the state – 3,01,833 under home or institutional quarantine and 13,334 under hospital surveillance. 1,426 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
Only one new hotspot was demarcated today while four areas were exempted. There are presently 437 hotspots in Kerala.
