Thiruvananthapuram: Covid-19 was confirmed in 8,790 persons in Kerala today even as 7,660 patients have recovered from the disease. 7,646 were cases of local transmission and contact source for 872 was unknown. 94 healthcare workers were also among those infected.
27 recent deaths were confirmed as being caused by Covid taking the related death toll in the state to 1,403. The deceased are Thankappan Assari (80), Sukumaran (79), Soman (67), Sethukutty Amma (90) & Krishnapilla (90) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Sukumaran Nair (75) from Kollam district, Linos (74) & Abdul Kalam (65) from Alappuzha district; Moideen Kutty (63), Skaria Ithaq (90), T T Sicily (78), Ashraf (56) & Rajan (85) from Ernakulam district; Pushpakaran (63), Muthulakshmi (89), M K Mani (92), Mary Thomas (65), Basheer Ahmed (67), Sankaran (76), Solomon (55), Gopalan (67) & Janaki (83) from Thrissur district, A E Mohammad Ismail (51) & Juniath (48) from Palakkad district, Veerankutty (57) from Malappuram district, Pramod Das (50) from Kozhikode district, and Chinnamma (80) from Wayanad district.
The district-wise numbers for those who tested positive for Coronavirus today are Ernakulam 1,250, Kozhikode 1,149, Thrissur 1,018, Kollam 935, Alappuzha 790, Thiruvananthapuram 785, Kottayam 594, Malappuram 548, Kannur 506, Palakkad 449, Pathanamthitta 260, Kasaragod 203, Wayanad 188 and Idukki 115. There are 178 persons who have travelled to the state from outside.
The count of those infected through contact from the districts are Ernakulam 994, Kozhikode 1,087, Thrissur 1,005, Kollam 923, Alappuzha 717, Thiruvananthapuram 582, Kottayam 588, Malappuram 502, Kannur 385, Palakkad 218, Pathanamthitta 198, Kasaragod 197, Wayanad 178 and Idukki 72.
The numbers of infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 22, Kozhikode & Kannur 19 each, Ernakulam 7, Thrissur 6, Kollam 5, Pathanamthitta 4; Malappuram, Wayanad & Kasaragod 3 each, Kottayam 2 and Idukki 1.
The district-wise figures for the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 594, Kollam 459, Pathanamthitta 265, Alappuzha 366, Kottayam 1,020, Idukki 90, Ernakulam 633, Thrissur 916, Palakkad 735, Malappuram 1,028, Kozhikode 720, Wayanad 137, Kannur 358 and Kasaragod 339.
At present, there are 93,264 patients undergoing treatment for this disease while a total of 3,16,692 persons have so far recovered from Covid in the State.
There are 2,90,504 people under isolation across the state, 2,68,506 under home or institutional quarantine and 21,998 in hospitals. 2,616 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
66,980 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and a total of 44,076,730 samples have been sent for testing till now.
11 new hotspots were declared today while 12 areas were excluded from the list. There are 687 hotspots in Kerala now.
