Pathanamthitta district gets a Vanitha Police Station as Vishu gift

Thiruvananthapuram, April 14: As part of the State Government’s initiatives to improve the safety and security of women and children in the State, Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan had yesterday announced the opening of three new Vanitha Police Stations at Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Kasargod from today (Vishu).

The Vanitha Police Station at Pathanamthitta was formally launched today with the District Police Chief, K G Simon handing over the keys of the Vanitha Police Station to Station in-charge and SHO, Leelamma in the presence of Smt Veena George, MLA at a brief ceremony (in the context of the Coronavirus situation) at the District headquarters. The Vanitha Police Station will function from the old official residence of the District Collector.

S Sivaprasad, Addl. Superintendent of Police; R Jose, District Special Branch Dy SP; A Santhosh Kumar, DDRB Dy SP; K Sajeev, Pathanamthitta Dy SP; Udayamma, Vanitha Cell Inspector; and other senior Police officials were present on the occasion.

It was the Pathanamthitta MLA’s efforts that saw the Government approving a Vanitha Police Station for the district. “It’s a milestone in the development of the Police Department in Pathanamthitta district and will go a long way in ensuring the protection and security of women in the district”, said Veena George.

The new Vanitha Police Station will have jurisdiction over the entire Pathanamthitta district. Crime against women and children would get priority and efforts would be made to address these issues with utmost urgency.

The Vanitha Police Station will have the strength of one Police Inspector, three Sub-Inspectors, four Sr. Civil Police Officers and three Civil Police Officers. One jeep of the Vanitha helpline and two two-wheelers will be at the disposal of the Vanitha Police Station staff for patrolling and other operations.

The building housing the Vanitha Police Station is equipped with all the required infrastructure and modern equipment like computer and CCTV. Women personnel would carry out the entire operations at the Vanitha Police Station.
