Trivandrum: The Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management – Kerala (IIITM-K) and the International Centre for Open Source Software (ICFOSS) are jointly organising a five days workshop on ‘Advanced Android Programming’ during May 13-17, 2013. The workshop is open to students, fresh graduates, teaching community and industry professionals.
The workshop will be led by Saurabh Banga from C-DAC, New Delhi and will take the participants from the basics to the advanced topics. Participants are expected to be exposed to the basics of Java programming, databases and XML. The workshop will be held at IIITM-K inside the Technopark campus.
Some of the key topics for the workshop are:
- Android: The History of the platform
- Setting up the Development Environment (Eclipse and Android SDK), Android Debug Bridge (adb) and Emulators
- Introduction to XML Processing
- The Android Programming Model: Activities, Java/XML Layouts, Widgets, Layouts, and Event Handling
- Intents and activity invocations
- Resolution-independence
- Threads, Networking, HTTP and JSON
- Bitmaps and Drawing
- Data structures & Data persistence: properties, internal & external storage, SQLite, network storage; Memory models & references
- Android APIs: Content Handlers, Telephony, Location & Maps, Bluetooth, Connectivity, and Sensors
