Rubber Research Institute develops latex-based paint

Kottayam: The Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) under the Rubber Board, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has developed a latex-based paint. The technology of the latex-based paint, developed by the Rubber Products Incubation Centre (RPIC) of RRII, was formally transferred to Kerala Paints Industries at a function held today.

At a function organised for the technology transfer, Kerala Minister for Ports & Co-operation, Shri V N Vasavan, described the occasion as historic, noting that it marked the launch of a new, eco-friendly product derived from natural rubber. He also emphasised the need to enhance the domestic consumption of natural rubber to ensure better returns for rubber growers.

In his address, M Vasanthagesan IRS, Executive Director of Rubber Board, said that RPIC is actively translating RRII’s research outcomes into commercially viable products. He added that the Rubber Board remains committed to developing innovative, sustainable, and value-added products from natural rubber.

K V Dayal (Sustainability Innovation Lead, Faculty, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam); Dr Debabrata Ray (Director of RRII); Dr Shera Mathew (Senior Scientist, Technical Consultancy Division, RRII); and Midhun P Pullumettel (Managing Director of Kerala Paints Industries) were among those present on the occasion.
