Rubber Board announces insurance scheme for tappers

Kottayam: The Rubber Board under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, GoI; is implementing an Insurance Scheme for the rubber plantation workers in the unorganised sector. The rubber tappers and workers in the Group Processing Centres of the Rubber Producers’ Societies and the self-tapping growers owning rubber area up to one hectare and practising self-tapping in a minimum of a hundred rain-guarded trees can join the scheme.

The applicants should be in the age group of 18-59 years with a minimum of one year of experience. The beneficiaries of the scheme, having an age up to 60 years, are eligible for an insurance coverage of Rs 1 lakh for normal death, Rs 5 lakh for death due to accident/wild animal attack and Rs 2 lakh to 4 lakh for complete disability due to accident. In the case of beneficiaries having an age above 60 years are eligible for an insurance coverage of Rs 4 lakh for death due to accident/wild animal attack and Rs 2 lakh to 4 lakh for complete disability due to accident.

A maturity amount proportional to the contribution shall be disbursed at the age of 70 years or early closure at the age of 60 years or above, as a terminal benefit from the insurance company. The minimum premium amount to be paid by the beneficiary is Rs 300/-, and the Board’s contribution is Rs 900/-. The last date to apply for the scheme is 10 December 2025.
