Trivandrum’s Chalai Bazaar gets a digital tribute


Trivandrum: The iconic Chalai market in Thiruvananthapuram has got a digital tribute from the German cultural centre in the city. Today it has its own web portal, Chalai Bazaar at www.

Chalai Bazaar is an audiovisual web documentary project by noted German photographer, Nora Bibel, on the heritage market street in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. The Berlin-based photographer spent about two years working on this digital project conceived by the Goethe-Zentrum in Trivandrum as a tribute to the people and the places inside this centuries-old market place called Chalai.

The Chalai Bazaar project was launched by the Minister for Tourism, Shri Kadakampally Surendran at a function held at Goethe-Zentrum, Trivandrum. Dr Syed Ibrahim, Honorary Consul for Germany in India and Director, Goethe-Zentrum, Trivandrum; and Dr Claus Heimes, Director, Goethe Institut, Bangalore were among those present on the occasion.
