Trivandrum: The city-based UDS Group of Hotels has made it into the Asia Book of Records by making 170 varieties of heart-shaped desserts on the occasion of Valentine’s Day at their Uday Suites Garden Hotel located at Shanghumugham.

The adjudicator for Asia Book of Records, Shanthanu Chauhan handed over the certificate and other related paper in token of having recognized and marked the event to the Asia Book of Records to Raja Gopal Iyer, CEO of UDS Group. In his comments, Shanthanu said, “UDS Group of Hotels has set new standards in attempting this record. The target was 150 heart shaped desserts but the UDS Group made 170 heart shaped desserts including 15 sugar-free desserts. They have created history in making this record.”

“We wanted to do something different. This was a maiden and a unique attempt by a hotel of its size in Kerala to attract tourists’ attention in large numbers. We started the work almost one month back to create tasty and innovative desserts. The credit goes to Faizal Basheer, Executive Chef and Hari Nair, Pastry Chef; under whose guidance a team of 12 chefs worked for over 48 hours to make this record attempt”, said Raja Gopal Iyer.

The 170 desserts were selected from a list of 226 desserts shortlisted for the event. This includes 46 Indian desserts like Sandhesh, Burfies, Ladoo, Mysore Pak, Gujiya, etc. A collection of assorted cookies were treated as one entry.

Apart from serving the in-house guests, the heart-shaped desserts would be distributed to poor homes. The UDS Group has bagged several awards in the past, including the best luxury hotel in Kerala from the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala.
