Uday Samudra, Kovalam hosts Russian food festival


Trivandrum: Uday Samudra, Kovalam is hosting a Russian food festival in association with the Russian Cultural Centre in Thiruvananthapuram. The inaugural ceremony of the four-day festival was held earlier this week.

The chief guest of the event was Fyodor Rozovskiy, Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, part of the Russian Embassy in New Delhi. The guest of Honour was Yana Philippova, a Russian model and singer.

In his address, Ratheesh Nair, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation and also Director of the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum said, “We have been planning a Russian Food Festival since 2014 and we are glad that we could finally organise it, thanks to Uday Samudra. This festival would go a long way in bringing together the people of Russia and India. This food fest is a toast to the Indo-Russian friendship. We have arranged Chefs from Russia who have brought the ingredients from their country to make this food fest as authentic as possible.”

Raja Gopaal Iyer, CEO of UDS Group said, “Tourists from Russia account for over 5% of the International tourists coming to India and Kerala is a favourite destination for them. This is an opportunity for the locals here to taste authentic Russian food.”

The inaugural event also saw invited guests taking part in a cooking demo to get an experience of making Russian salads. Guests who attend the function had a chance to experience some of the exotic recipes of Russia and Yana sang few famous Russian songs which added more glamour to the event.

Rajasekharan Nair, CMD of UDS Group, and representatives of the Tourism industry were among those present on the occasion. The festival concludes on December 16.
