Trivandrum: The State-level Onam celebrations being spearheaded by the Kerala Tourism Department will be held from September 03 to 09, 2017. The main host for the week-long celebrations will be the capital city. District level celebrations too will be held in all 14 districts by the District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPC).
The main celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram will be kicked off by Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan at the Nishagandhi Auditorium on September 3rd. This was announced by Tourism Minister, Shri Kadakampally Surendran while addressing a press conference here today.
Giving details, the Minister said, “Actor Mammootty will be the chief guest at the function. A panchavadyam ensemble by 40 young artists will open the inaugural function of the government-sponsored festivities in the capital. Actor Manju Warrier will enthral the audience with her dance performance. Leading singers Vijay Yesudas and Vidhu Prathap will lead the musical programme. ‘Nanma niravil Nallonam’, an audio-visual programme produced by Mathew Itty, is the other attraction. Events would be held at 30 venues across the city. The celebrations will end with a colourful pageantry in the State capital on September 9th.”
There will be a trade fair and a food festival at the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds. The illumination of major roads and public buildings will be switched on from September 1st.
“Green protocol would be followed in organising the celebrations and instructions to this effect had been given to the organising committee at the District and State levels. The government has kept a budget of Rs. 5.25 crores for organising the events in the State, of which Rs. 3.51 crores would be for the festivities in Trivandrum”, the Minister added.
