Trivandrum hosts India International Waiters Race 2017


Trivandrum: The 4th edition of the India International Waiters’ Race was held on April 29 at the Shankumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram. The Champion Trophy First prize was won by Sathiya Baj from Vivanta by Taj, Kovalam. The second prize was won by Rahul Mishra from Classic Sarovar, Trivandrum and the third prize by Alpesh from Raviz Leela, Kovalam.

The India International Waiters’ Race (IIWR) 2017 was organised by Uday Samudra Beach Hotel & Spa in association with Kerala Tourism, India Tourism and other Tourism Organisations.

The Waiters Long race started from Shankumugham beach to domestic airport and back to the finishing point at Shankumugham beach covering an area of 2.5 kms. The Waiters carried salvers which had two bottles & two glasses filled with water in their hand, and they had an option to switch hands at each 600 meters checkpoints placed on the track/route.

The event was flagged off by the Chacko Paul, President of South Kerala Hoteliers Forum; Sudhiesh Kumar, President of Kerala Hotels & Restaurants Association; and Raja Gopaal Iyer, CEO of Uday Samudra Group.

The main objective of this programme is to instil a sense of belongingness and self-confidence in waiters’ community who are the pillars of Hotels and Restaurants, The winners of the Marathon were awarded Trophies, Medals, Cash prize and Certificates and these were given away by the dignitaries who had flagged off the event.

IHMCT, Kovalam was the Judging Partner for the event which saw good attendance from hotels all over Kerala.
