Trivandrum: Minister for Industries & IT, Shri P K Kunhalikutty launched a slew of developmental initiatives by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), the premier developmental financing agency of the State Government, at a function held in the capital. He also distributed the Awards for Excellence for 2015.
The Minister also laid the foundation stone for a Standard Design Factory (SDF) at the Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) in Kinalur, Kozhikode through a virtual ceremony. IGC Kinalur has 308 acres of land of which 146 acres are fully developed and utilized. The proposed SDF will be of 60,000 sq. ft. occupying three floors. The construction is expected to be completed by 2017.
He announced the early bird discount schemes for SDF at Light Engineering Park at Palakkad and Life Science Park at Thonnakkal in Thiruvananthapuram. A reduction of 20% will be given on the rent of SDF Light Engineering Park. At the Life Science Park, the Minister declared a 50% reduction for the land lease. He also announced the setting up of Business Incubation facility for Young entrepreneurs and 10,000 sq. ft. space to a women tailoring collective, both at Angamaly. The decision was inspired by the overwhelming response and success of two editions of YES Summit and We Kerala.
In his address, the Minister said that the industrial scene in Kerala has seen sweeping changes in the past few years. People have come to accept the manufacturing sector as an alternative area offering new possibilities. The SME sector is also showing signs of growth, he said. The industries department is trying to exploit this potential. The earlier belief was that it was difficult to start and nurture an industry in Kerala. For the same reason it was difficult to launch a successful industry in the state. In this context, the award for successful entrepreneurs is all the more important. KSIDC identified 15 winners, two being of startups, for the second edition of Awards for Excellence.
