KINFRA Defence Park obtains final approval from Govt of India


Trivandrum: The proposed KINFRA Defence Park at Ottapalam in Palakkad has obtained ‘Final Approval’ clearance from the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Government of India.

The proposal submitted by Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) is for setting up a Defence Park as part of the Make in India – Make in Kerala Project. This project is under the Modified Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme (MIIUS).

According to Dr. G C Gopala Pillai, Managing Director of KINFRA, “The Defence Park could start ventures in one year and reach maximum production in two years. The project cost including land is Rs. 231.35 crores. The project is expecting a Central assistance of Rs. 50 crores.”

The proposed project envisages providing complete infrastructure facility for the establishment of KINFRA Defence Park. The project is intended to create a Defence Park with all modern common infrastructure facilities exclusive for the component manufacturers of defence industry with Central Assistance from, Government of India under MIIU Scheme. The scheme is implemented by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.

KINFRA has acquired the land for development in Palakkad having easy access of Road, Railways, Airport and Sea port. KINFRA has earmarked 60 acres of land for setting up Defence Park at Ottappalam with the aim of providing infrastructure facilities for defence component manufacturers. The land is under the possession of KINFRA and is located adjacent to KINFRA SME Park. The industrial units in the cluster will be given shared infrastructure facilities for innovative product development.

KINFRA proposes to develop infrastructure facilities in the proposed Defence Park which includes dedicated power, continuous water supply, communication facilities, offering plug and play arrangement for easy start up of Industrial units at minimum cost and time. It is also being envisaged to create facility for instant global access through a state-of-the-art communication network.
