Angamaly: The inaugural three-day ‘Machinery Expo 2016’, organised here by the State Government, ended on a high note today with the event receiving orders worth Rs 5 crores and registering an attendance of more than 10,000 entrepreneurs from different industries of the MSME sector.
According to the data from the Department of Industries & Commerce, around 250 orders and 5,000 inquiries have been received. “Food processing and general engineering machines and tools are on high demand among the SME entrepreneurs in the State. We are planning to bring more exhibitors and equipments with industry-wise classification for the next year,” said P M Francis, Director, Department of Industries & Commerce.
The visitors were also happy with the expo which they found as one stop solution for their business entities. The exhibitors noted that that the exhibition was well-organised and hassle-free. The machineries for food and agro-based industries have topped the order list.
The top officials from public sector companies including BPCL, HOCL, Cochin Shipyard and FACT explained their procurement requirements from the MSME sectors. The speakers also detailed about tendering procedure, their registration and other documentation procedures
Compact machines gathering up materials of various sizes, shapes and textures and turning them into neat packages in a matter of seconds were among the crowd-pullers. The small-scale printing and packaging machinery, exhibited in 11 stalls at the expo awed visitors with their speed, dexterity, cost-effectiveness and compact designs.
The Machinery Expo has shed light on new business opportunities in the small scale agro-food processing industry, which had the largest representation at the event. Out of the total 93 exhibitors at the expo, agro-food processing units occupied 27 stalls.
