Bhima Govindan bags BSICC’s Lifetime Achievement Award


Trivandrum: Bhima Group Chairman, Dr. B Govindan was chosen for the British South India Council of Commerce (BSICC)’s 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award, for his outstanding contribution to the Indian gems and jewellery industry.

The award, which recognises the achievements of prominent business persons and organisations from south India and UK’s south India community, was received by Dr. Govindan in UK Parliament house, during its business meet. BSICC promotes trade and investment opportunities between the UK and South India.

He received the award from Lord Swaraj Paul, a veteran of British politics and a global industrialist, in the presence of Virendra Sharma MP, UK Parliament, Patron of BSICC; Sujit Nair, BSICC Chief Coordinator & Director; Harish Haridas, Kerala Chief Representative, BSICC & Vice-Chairman, Lords Hospital; and Lord Brett Mclean.

Suhas Rao, MD, Bhima Jewellery, spoke about investment opportunities in Indian Gems and Jewellery Industry. Jim James, UKTI Advisor spoke of the potential for strengthening India-UK trade relations.

Govindan began his career as a sales and marketing executive for Bhima & Bros, Alappuzha. He has been instrumental in steering the business to its present success and also to a large extent in changing the face of jewellery business for the better. Under his leadership, Bhima, rose to a Rs. 8,000 crore company and it is identified in Kerala as the first ISO-9001 certified jewellery and the first BIS certified jewellery showroom.

Additionally, Bhima is the highest VAT paying jeweller from a single outlet. It has been retaining its position of the highest sales tax paying jewellery showroom in Kerala for several years and also maintains the top position in prizes and coupons of Grand Kerala Shopping Festival, conducted by Kerala Tourism.

He also holds several positions including the Director Board Member of All India Gems & Jewellery Trade Federation, President of All Kerala Gold & Silver Merchants Association, Vice-President of Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industries; Chairman of the rate fixing Committee, Gold & Silver, Kerala etc.
