Trivandrum: As part of product diversification, the Kerala Agro Machinery Corporation Ltd. (KAMCO), a State owned enterprise, has launched two new products. A Power Reaper that runs on diesel and a Brush Cutter were launched by the Chief Minister, Shri Oommen Chandy at a function held in Thiruvananthapuram, earlier this week.
Agriculture Minister, Shri K P Mohanan; Charupara Ravi, Chairman of KAMCO and N K Manoj, Managing Director of KAMCO, were among those present on the occasion.
Earlier, briefing the media about the products, Ravi said, “The Power Reaper, which runs on a 3.4 horse power diesel engine, is priced at Rs. 93,000 and the Brush Cutter, which has the capacity to clean up to one acre in an hour, is priced at Rs. 21,000. KAMCO is also planning to launch a diesel generator, post hole digger, flail mower, high altitude sprayer and a planting machine. These new products would be soon introduced in the market”.
Manoj said, “Products launched recently by KAMCO, such as mini-tractors with a width of one metre, power tillers and power reapers have become hugely popular in the market, bagging about 30% of the market share in India and the number two slot in terms of overall sales.”
KAMCO was established in 1973 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Kerala Agro Industries Corporation Ltd. (KAIC), Trivandrum, for manufacture of agricultural machinery specifically Power Tillers and Diesel Engines. Subsequently KAMCO became a separate Govt. of Kerala undertaking in 1986. At present, KAMCO has four units located at Athani and Kalamassery in Ernakulam District, at Kanjikode in Palakkad District, and at Mala in Thrissur District.
