Alappuzha: Modernisation of the coir industry will be a key area of focus at the upcoming fifth edition of Coir Kerala with interesting new products and concepts expected to be showcased at the event, Minister for Revenue and Coir, Shri Adoor Prakash said today.
Coir Kerala 2015, which will be held in Alappuzha from February 1-5, is an annual event providing a platform for producers and exporters in Kerala to explore marketing opportunities around the globe. The National Coir Research and Management Institute (NCRMI) is the coordinating agency for the event.
Speaking after inaugurating the reception committee office of Coir Kerala 2015, the Minister said, “We intend to redouble our efforts to bring in technology inputs to modernise the industry, add value to coir products made in Kerala and come up with innovations; as the largest gathering of stakeholders in the coir and natural fibres, Coir Kerala is the perfect forum to explore new ideas.”
He said Coir Kerala 2015 will be bigger than its predecessors with at least 160 foreign buyers from overseas anticipated this year. Buyer registrations are continuing and the organisers expect that more countries will be represented at the event than last year, opening up possibilities for new markets.
Coir Kerala 2015 will have an international pavilion with around 100 stalls and a national pavilion with 150 stalls. Like previous years, it will also host competitions for coir industry workers and cultural and entertainment programmes.
