Horticorp keeps vegetable prices under control in Onam season

Trivandrum: Despite the rising prices, the market intervention by the Kerala State Horticultural Products Development Corporation Ltd. or Horticorp, as it’s popularly know, is keeping the prices of fruits and vegetables under control in Kerala during this festive season. Horticorp has made elaborate arrangements throughout the State, to meet the demands of the general public for essential commodities.

According to Manoj S Kurup, Managing Director, Horticorp, “Apart from our 150 exclusive Horticorp Haritha vegetable outlets, we have, in coordination with the State Civil Supplies Department (Supplyco), started 100 Haritha Vegetable Corners in selected Supplyco Supermarkets across the State. We are also catering Onam Sadya requisites like jaggery from Marayur (Marayur Sharkkara), varieties of payasam mixes, Milma products, various pickles, assortment chips, Sadya banana leaves, etc at selected outlets.”

“During this festival season we are also supplying vegetables directly to the residents associations in the State, at their door steps. We are currently procuring 51 varieties of vegetables from farmers which are being supplied at a subsidised rate to the public. The price we offer to farmers is 10 per cent more than the wholesale rate. It is noteworthy that, the selling prices are fixed daily, at rates 30 % below the prevailing retail market rates in each locality”, he added.

Horticorp is procuring and marketing the vegetables produced by farmers in Kerala for the Onam festival season. Horticorp has opened Haritha Onam fairs in all districts from the first week of August. As many as 13 new mobile units are also serving Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kottayam districts.
