Kozhikode: Teams from local colleges in the Malabar region have performed well at the Startup 20/20 organised by the Calicut Forum for IT (CAFIT) and NASSCOM at NIT Calicut (NIT-C), in partnership with the Dewang Mehta Foundation Trust, along with NIT-C and IIM Kozhikode, from February 27 to March 01, 2015.
The Apilder.com (App-Builder) idea, an automatic mobile application building tool without coding, from the team of MEA College of Engineering Perinthalmanna won the first prize.
The Smart Trolley idea, trollies that will handle billing process with payment and automatically goes back to its original place from the team of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Kozhikode were the first runner up.
The second runner up position was shared by two teams from NIT-C for their ideas – Dress me up, a virtual dressing tool with your own photo to select dress that suits to you through online shopping where you act as a model there, and the Travellers App, an intelligent companion for travellers with all useful and personalised information even when network is out of range.
Apart from the winning teams, MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram; Cochin College of Engineering, Valancheri; College of Engineering, Badagara; Government Engineering College Kozhikode; and Chinmaya Institute of Technology, Kannur; were the other colleges which participated in the three day event.
Startup 20/20 is a weekend venture, acceleration and hands-on entrepreneurial skills enhancement event, for young IT entrepreneurs. The weekend format of two and a half days is designed to get good team bonding and give time to participants to mix and know each other well, generate ideas, business models. Continuous mentoring will be available from industry veterans and mentors. The winning teams were awarded with suitable prize money and seed funding as appropriate.
