MSME Minister hails Startup Village, promises Centre’s support

Kochi: Union Minister for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Shri Kalraj Mishra has promised all possible support to Startup Village and agreed to apprise Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the need for more seed funding for the effective functioning of India’s first PPP model technology business incubator.

The Minister, during his visit to the facility at Kalamassery on Sunday, congratulated the Startup Village team for building such a robust ecosystem for budding entrepreneurs. “I will speak to the PM and others and see what we can do to support the incubator, which is doing an impressive job in bringing out innovative ideas and promoting young entrepreneurs,” he said.

The Minister, who is a Member of Parliament from the Deoria constituency of Uttar Pradesh, noted that he would like to have a similar facility for youths in his home State too. The Minister was appreciative of the Student Entrepreneurship Policy of the State government which has resulted in many students setting up start-ups and also noted that it was the first of its kind in India.

“We will seek centre’s support for the expansion of Startup Village,” said P H Kurian, Principal Secretary – IT, who was present on the occasion. “In fact the State government is planning to allocate Rs. 75 crores in the upcoming budget for expansion of the facility.”

During a 20-minute walk around the facility, along with the Startup Village team including Chairman, Sanjay Vijayakumar and CEO, Pranav Kumar Suresh, the Minister examined various projects by young entrepreneurs.

The CEO briefed the Minister on the objectives of Startup Village and shared his thoughts on how India can achieve leadership in terms of technology entrepreneurship if such incubators are set up in more States.
