Trivandrum: The Government of Kerala is introducing the e-Office system in 17 Department in Phase I and 22 Departments in Phase II. This was announced by the Minister for Industries & IT, Shri P K Kunhalikutty at the inauguration of eIndia 2014 event at Kovalam today.
In his inaugural address, the Minister said that with the implementation of e-Office which is envisaged to improve the administrative efficiency and transparency of the administration, the Secretariat will become a paperless office. The pilot run implementation at the Kerala State IT Mission and the Finance Department has been successful. “The Government is committed to implement the e-Office in all other sections and later on, across the entire State which will make Kerala a truly digital State.”
“Kerala has been on the forefront in implementing e-Governance initiatives since our foray in early 90s. This year’s State budget had put in a lot of thrust to boost the IT sector. We have an ambitious plan of introducing 600 more services spread across 40 Departments under the e-District project”, he added.
In her address, Rita Teaotia, Special Secretary, DoT, GoI stressed on the need to make voice telephony accessible to all and to bring down the cost of operations for service providers. “Voice connectivity is the first pillar of the ambitious Digital India initiative. We should recognise Optical Fibre (OFC) as a utility and have a bigger network of OFC to improve broadband connectivity. This would push digital delivery of Government services to the masses.”
Sessions on leveraging technology for Government service delivery, e-Governance: the State perspectives, emerging innovations in e-Governance, role of technology in redefining examination management, skill development initiatives to boost employability, role of innovation in Government initiatives in education, etc were held today.
The 10th edition of the premier ICT event, eIndia 2014, being held at Kovalam will conclude on November 16. The conference is being organized by Elets Technomedia with the Department of IT, Government of Kerala as the host partner. Digital India is the theme of the eIndia 2014 Conference. The eIndia 2014 Awards for achievements in e-Governance will be presented tomorrow.
