Intel to support Kerala’s digital inclusion programme


Trivandrum: Intel India today joined hands with the P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra in its effort to make Kerala the first total e-literate State in the country. N Balagopal, Vice Chairman, P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra signed and exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding with Anand Ramamoorthy, Director – Consumption Sales, Intel South Asia, for the formal launch of the Intel Easy Steps Programme in Kerala at a function held in Thiruvananthapuram.

Giving details of the digital inclusion programme, Balagopal said, “In the first phase, the programme will be rolled out in 99 Panchayats spread across the 14 Districts in Kerala and the target will be to cover about 15 lakh adults in the next 24 months. Adults in the age group of 21 to 75, covering about 45% of the population will be included in this programme. Intel would train the master trainers in these selected Panchayats, who will in turn train others. The programme would eventually cover all the 798 Districts in Kerala”.

In his keynote address, Anand said, “Intel works with Governments across the region to deliver innovation, entrepreneurship and technology that empowers communities, improve employability and increase economic opportunity and we have huge global exposure in delivering digital literacy skills. Kerala has all the ingredients to reach the goal of being the first total e-literate State and Intel would provide the best of content and handware to achieve this. To minimise leakage of benefits, Intel has the diagnostic solutions which will give feedback on how exactly the devices are used. Intel has been active in Kerala over the last ten years and has associated with different programmes like Akshaya, Kudumbashree and IT@School with excellent results”.

As part of the programme, specially designed Tablets powered by Intel would be rolled out and BSNL would provide wireline and wireless broadband connectivity, as per feasibility.

A Shajahan IAS, Special Secretary – Education, GoK; V Prabhakar, PGM – TTD, BSNL and Kishore Balaji, Head – Digital Inclusion Programme, Intel Asia Pacific were among those present on the occasion.

The P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra, an institution promoted by Department of General Education, GoK is collaborating with the Department of IT, GoI; Departments of Education, Local Self Governments & IT, GoK in this endeavour.
