Trivandrum: Aimed at promoting the State’s cuisine and the quintessence of Kerala-style cooking across the world, Kerala Tourism has launched an international competition titled ‘The Great Kerala Food Championship’.
Minister for Tourism, Shri A P Anil Kumar said that the cuisine of the region was famous the world over for its unique taste and health benefits. “Be it vegetarian or non-vegetarian, the dishes of Kerala are known for their taste, healthiness and traditional preparation procedures. The championship is aimed at spreading the uniqueness of our cuisine among the people within the country and world over”.
The participant has to submit online, a write up on his/her favourite dish or any story directly related to their experience with Kerala food. The article should be submitted to the website of Kerala Tourism through the contest page using the login id and password received at the time of registration.
“Kerala’s traditional cuisine has strong cultural influences. Through this competition, we aim to make the variety of traditional Kerala recipes a hit among people across the world,” said S Harikishore, Director, Department of Tourism.
The contest will close on March 15, 2014. It is open to people anywhere in the world who have completed the age of 18 years. They can use www.keralatourism.org/foodchampionship to register their name and participate in the contest.
There is no entry fee for the contest. Though a contestant is encouraged to send only one entry for the competition, he or she can send more than one entry, provided it is sent from the same login id. No individual will be allowed to register twice.
A maximum of five entries can be sent through a single login id. All entries should be in English between 200 and 600 words long. The subject or theme of the article must be related to Kerala cuisine.
The tourism department has lined up a total 402 prizes for the championship. The first prize winner will get a three-night stay in a Kerala hotel for two people (between May and August) plus air fare to Kerala from any point within India to collect the prize.
