Kerala Tourism partners Facebook for social media workshops

Trivandrum: Boosting its efforts to explore the potential of social media in the promotion of its activities, Kerala Tourism is organising two workshops in the State this week in association with Facebook.

‘Travel Goes Social’ is a special campaign for travel and tourism professionals which will start off on November 20 with Tourism Minister Shri A P Anilkumar inaugurating a day-long workshop at the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram.

The second workshop will be in Kochi, at the Bolgatty Palace Hotel, on November 21. The theme of the programme is ‘Travel & Tourism: Leveraging Social Media and Information Technology’.

The proceedings will begin with a talk on ‘IT-enabling Travel, Tourism and Logistics’ by renowned journalist and IT expert Anand Parthasarathy.

This will be followed by two lectures on ‘How to use Facebook in Travel Industry’ by Sachin Rao, Head of Small & Medium Business, Facebook (India) and Esme Lean, Facebook Advertising Specialist.

These workshops would help the travel and tour operators in Kerala to go online and use the digital space to expand and manage their business. This would also assist them to leverage the power of digital space through online video marketing, creating partnerships with bloggers and engaging through social media like Facebook and Twitter to promote them. The programme would ensure that social media space is seen by businesses more as a platform for social interaction than simply a medium for promoting themselves.

Earlier this year in June, India’s first international event on travel technologies, the International Conference on Travel Technology (ICTT), was held in Kovalam, with the support of Kerala’s Department of Tourism, with the objective of helping the travel and tourism industry leverage the massive marketing potential of the internet and social media.
