Trivandrum: The proposed Cyber-dome project of Kerala Police will be a model for Public Private Participation in cyber security and virtual policing. This was announced by Chief Minister, Shri Oommen Chandy while addressing the valedictory function of the International Cyber Security & Policing Conference, c0c0n 2013 in Thiruvananthapuram.
The 4,000 sq. ft. Cyber-dome and Hi-tech Research Centre of Kerala Police will come up at the Technopark campus in Trivandrum. Apart from countering and probing cyber crimes, the Centre would also develop cyber forensics to assist cyber police in effective investigation of crimes, he added.
The CM also called upon the Police officials on the need to be vigilant to deal with cyber security issues. “New methods in cyber policing as a result of the networking of Police Officers and Cyber security experts during c0c0n will be implemented after discussing with all stakeholders. The government is committed to ensuring cyber security in the State and strengthen crime prevention”, he said.
In his keynote address, P H Kurian IAS, Principal Secretary – IT, said that cyber security was a big concern for the State as it was poised to be a digital State by 2020. “Kerala was a pioneer in regulating cyber cafes and now we are coming up with a rule to regulate e-governance activities in the State as more and more G2C services would be delivered online”.
Manu Zacharia, one of the key organisers of c0c0n 2013 from Information Security Research Association (ISRA) summed up the two days event saying that some 50+ Cyber security experts spoke on 44 topics under 2 tracks and 3 advanced tracks. “However the event can be termed a success only if the takeaways are implemented by participants in their respective States and the result evaluated”, he added.
Manoj Abraham IPS, IGP announced that about 15 different organisations involved in cyber security and policing, including some major IT players from the private sector and several ethical hackers from Kerala, have expressed their interest to be a part of the Cyber-dome project. The next edition, c0c0n 2014 is likely to be held in Kochi.
Cyber security experts from various national law enforcement agencies, foreign delegates, information technology experts, entrepreneurs, and law enforcers took part in the conference.
